Another 10,000+ Long Haul

Sally, Willie (Maine Coon Cat) and I departed San Diego on 7/28 for Glacier National Park, east to Maine and then back to San Diego by the end of September. Traveled the eastern Sierra. Great campsite in in Standish, CA -- Days End RV. Eastern Oregon very interesting -- desert, to include sand dunes. Stopped in Pendleton Oregon at the Pendleton Mill Store -- great shirts, last a lifetime. Beautiful farming country in eastern Washington -- rolling hills of wheat. Spokane, WA is a lovely city separating the rolling wheat fields from the mountains. Coeur d'Alene, ID cute town, though crushed by tourists (like us) at this time of year. Currently in Kalispell, MT. Into Glacier National Park tomorrow.

Taking our time east. Need to be in Barton, VT on 8/17 for the Guinness World Record attempt at the largest Cadillac Parade. You can learn more at OrleansCountyFair.net or at You Tube under Cadillac Parade 2011 Barton Vermont. They still need registrants with Cadillacs, so if you have a Cadillac (or friend who does) and have the time, join in the record setting attempt -- current record held in Europe ... which just doesn't seem right for a classic American car!

 

I haven't made it to the Pendleton Round Up yet, but that is on my list of things to do. My mom has a good friend out that direction, who is involved with it, and always invites us out, but the timing doesn't seem to work. One day. Congrats on the big trip and good luck with the record!

Took our teardrop (the Tin Toad) to Logan Pass (Continental Divide in Glacier National Park) but couldn't descend the eastern side because our total length (tow vehicle and teardrop) exceeded 21 feet. Rather than risk the $500 fine, we descended from whence we came. Onward to Helena, MT and Sheridan, WY -- always on the lookout for sites that offer Starbucks within a few miles. Passed through the Black Hill (and swarms of bikes heading to Sturgis). Finished the day in Valentine, NB. If you're married (and want to remain that way) I suggest an alternative town for wishing your bride Happy Valentine's Day -- even in August. Currently in Iowa City, IA and heading toward Frederick, MD.

Logged about 3,000 miles this trip and 23,000 cumulative miles. May reach 25,000 by Maine.

It's a beautiful country. I hope your schedules permit you to get out and see much of it this summer.

 

If a tear and tow is too long a lot of people must have to miss that decent. We were there years ago but were tent camping so just a car length. I agree with you it is a beautiful country and so good to have a little trailer to go and enjoy it. Your trip sound very neat.

 

When I was younger, I went on a bike ride in Glacier. Going up The Road to the Sun was worth the ride down. Glacier is beautiful and on my list for The Far Fars.
