WANTED Wanted: raindrop ultra in virginia

@madisonmog you could look through the old listings here, maybe your camper is already for sale! You’d get a sense of value, too. My sense is that most are in the range of $18-28,000, depending on options, condition, and age. There have been a few below, and a few above that range as well...

Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

These days I’m singing and playing on ukulele a lot of the pop, rock, folk/rock songs I heard on the AM radio in the 60s/70s. So much fun, and a lot of the music stands the test of time very well indeed!

    Propane Tanks

I’m just fascinated by off-grid and partial off-grid energy solutions. I guess I have dreams of comfortable living away from services, self sufficiency, etc. Thanks for the info on your energy use in the far north!

    Propane Tanks

@Tour 931 how much propane do you go through? Is it heating, hot water, cooking? Refrigeration? Backup or primary generator? Lighting? That seems like a lot of propane! When I was a child there was this one pizza parlor that ran a delivery fleet of propane converted small pickup trucks. Each...

Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

Alas, it’s so warm in the Northwest our mountain snowpack is well below 50% of normal. Every snowfall has been followed by warming and melting. It’s going to be a terrible water year… the upcoming wildfire season doesn’t seem promising. I wonder where we should camp this year? But there was...

    Propane Tanks

If I recall @Steve and Karen and I were both eventually successful with connecting Buddy heaters to the propane ports on our CIs. There were a few things to figure out… the mysterious one was that to connect to the cylinder port on the heater the hose fitting must have a schrader valve core...

    Propane Tanks

Yes, I didn’t mean to imply the refillables weren’t certified, I very much agree that DOT certification is important! I think Canada is a little stricter in their regs. Now I’m curious too about how full my local gas stations are filling my 11 and 20lb tanks! Idle curiosity because I’m paying...

    Propane Tanks

That’s a really great solution! Note that the one-use cylinders are not rated by DOT for refilling, and, can only be refilled to maybe 65% if one decides to take the risk. No thanks! It’s ridiculous though; over the last 5 years orso the price of one-use cylinders locally has gone from 3/$10...

    Battery Jumping

This is super important! The combo of electrical current and the dissimilar metals of the battery posts and the car’s cable clamps can produce a corrosive residue, which looks like a whitish-greenish-bluish gritty powder. That does NOT conduct electricity, it’s an insulator that can grow...

    Battery Jumping

That’s odd that you couldn’t jump it from another vehicle. That should work even with your batt dead dead dead. It may be worth trying to figure that out to make sure there isn’t a problem with gear or setup that might prevent a jump start in the future.

    Solar... Check my work?

I think it comes back to the solar controller. Is it a “smart” charger, multi-stage with a storage stage?

    Electric bike

Somebody out there shared their approach, a folder in the bottom of a plastic storage crate. Handy for in the car or van, and you only have to lift it once… or two people could slide it into the car. Was that on this site a few years back? Last spring I tried out a friend’s folder at a...

First 27 nights: Some questions and impressions

That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out this morning; it looks like the Backroads and Highroads may be the same design? Except that the Highroads has slightly heavier fabric as well as the aluminum poles, which sounds great! Calling CI on the electrical, yes!

First 27 nights: Some questions and impressions

That’s how the disconnect switch is set up. When the battery switch is off there is no power available for anything that runs on 12v (except the emergency breakaway brake circuit). I’ve had to replace locks as well. I don’t know why, but they are getting road grime flung at them at 70mph… We...
