    Solar... Check my work?

I think it comes back to the solar controller. Is it a “smart” charger, multi-stage with a storage stage?

    Electric bike

Somebody out there shared their approach, a folder in the bottom of a plastic storage crate. Handy for in the car or van, and you only have to lift it once… or two people could slide it into the car. Was that on this site a few years back? Last spring I tried out a friend’s folder at a...

First 27 nights: Some questions and impressions

That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out this morning; it looks like the Backroads and Highroads may be the same design? Except that the Highroads has slightly heavier fabric as well as the aluminum poles, which sounds great! Calling CI on the electrical, yes!

First 27 nights: Some questions and impressions

That’s how the disconnect switch is set up. When the battery switch is off there is no power available for anything that runs on 12v (except the emergency breakaway brake circuit). I’ve had to replace locks as well. I don’t know why, but they are getting road grime flung at them at 70mph… We...

Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

No glazed carrots in our plan, but would like to try that. About 2Lbs to one can? We brined for 20+ years, but gave it up when we got a fancy new refrigerator that turned out to not accommodate the brining bucket. 3 years later I’ve had the bright idea that I could solve the problem with a...

    Worst Trailer Comment Yet!

Agreed! Uninformed: So cute! Do you sleep in that? Yes, it’s got a queen bed inside. Insulting, baiting put down: Look at that rinky-dink trailer! I’ve no time for you! Bullying strangers is how you spend your time? Good luck with that… From dictionary.com: inconsequential, amateurish, or of...

    LP Gas Tank Cylinder Collar

Yes, what your picture shows is the CI-supplied 11 Lb cylinder. A 20 Lb also fits, this is the very common size people use on bbq grills, exchangeable at Blue Rhino locations, etc. Yes, it has nearly double the capacity, and double the weight.

    Favorite Budget Not-from-ci-accessory

It looks like these Husky 3 in 1 Rechargeable Utility Liights are back at HD, the 800 lumen version is $20 for Black Friday. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-800-Lumen-3-in-1-Rechargeable-Utility-Light-with-10000-mAh-Power-Bank-91641/334527613 There’s also a 500 lumen version, probably what I...

    12 volt ac??

Max cool @425w? I think that means it pulls about 30a? Meaning about 200ah over 8 hours? Somebody please check my math! That’s a super interesting idea! Could run at 60w, 5a, 40ah over 8 hours … but would a couple hundred BTU actually be helpful in a CI cabin? Check my math… maybe my...

    Busted Bumper

Zip ties last longer, I had to do something similar on a wheel well plastic liner. Big zip ties can be chained together in circlet or zipped together one to another for longer spans. Wire coat hangers can really last a long time, you need pliers to “tie” them by putting 4 or twists in two ends.

    New DO, campfire restrictions

Here is a review of studies of iron cookware to reduce anemia published by NIH: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8266402/ I couldn’t find any research based conclusions on cast iron toxicity, with the possible exception of those with the genetic disorder hemochromatosis who need to be...

    New DO, campfire restrictions

I’m sure there are if you look for them. There’s a theory a minute. Such is our world. I’ve heard tell that leaching cast iron is good for anemia. Who knows? Get information, read between the lines, make your choices, take your chances. Hmm, I’m cynical this morning!

    New DO, campfire restrictions

Ah, point well taken. Raw aluminum is indeed reactive with acidic foods, and would also seem to me to be better avoided in cookware. This line of DO’s is hard anodized and non-reactive. Anodizing is more than a surface coating, and doesn’t wear off. You can damage it though. I have some prized...

    New DO, campfire restrictions

I’ve been eyeing the GSI anodized aluminum camp dutch ovens forever. I know it seems like sacrilege, rest assured my cast iron collection remains extensive. A local retailer is having a retirement sale, and there was a 14” anodized, retails $165, for $60. Sold! (Sorry, only the one) Reading...
