5 miles a day...not sure I could to that

I can do five miles in my sleep. Back four years in Washington I was doing 12-18 miles a day with 3,000-9,000 feet elevation gain over rough terrain with 30 pounds. I usually only hiked five times a week and took two days off.
I would usually do two days at 90% of my average, two days at 100% then the fifth day do 105%. Then two days off.

I both love, and fear no cell service. Well, maybe not fear. I am addicted to data...Thats a habit I need to break.

Its getting hard to find places with no data...which is strange because not that long ago there were LOTS of data brown outs, and I am just not seeing many of those any more...

Where'd you go? I was at Brown County State Park last weekend. Not going anywhere I suspect this weekend. I've got 8 more days of "standby" -- I officially separate from my employer on the 8'th. Then I guess I have to get serious about finding a job

I suspect I'm going to be working Saturdays --- be interesting how it impact my camping. The one upside is, I'll likely have weekdays off which will give me more access to parks....I guess I'll see how that works out...

 

Went to German Ridge RA…the southern edge of Hoosier NF. 71 miles from home with lots of twisty roads in between. Out of 19 sites 3 were occupied, no reservations, $8/night

 

Thats not a bad thing. Personally, Sunday is my favorite day...when we get back from Mass (usually 10'ish) the campground is significantly quieter, and by 2pm its almost secluded. If the shop closes at 5, so getting most places that we routinely visit by 7, giving just in time for a camp fire, a quick meal, and a libation. The only real sad part is Mrs. Sweeney still has to work Monday morning.

We'll have to get there sometime soon! That looks like a shoulder-season spot. No AC makes Sweeney cranky. It's also not far from the overlook in Leavenworth, either. I haven't been there in years, but they have a great view and good fried chicken. I've looked at property in that area, lets not tell too many people who nice that part of the state is, someday I still dream of owning a few secluded acres there.

 

This is my third spring and summer in Wisconsin. For all the cold and winter six months out of the year the summers are really nice here. By Wednesday we might reach the 70’s.

I would be happy with 70’s. Has been in the 80’s the last 2 1/2 weeks and that is dry bulb (lows in the 60’s). Looking forward to some north time this summer.

 

it was warm and sunny today. I’ll need to mow any day now.

 

I need to mow my lawn and can’t this close after surgery. Plus my lawn is about five acres.

 

I’ll say a prayer for you. I sill have about three more weeks of no lifting. That I can do without. It’s the playing on my tractor that I miss.

 

How true! My home town is South Bend --- and when I visit parks up there, on most weekends they are p.a.c.k.e.d. I cna't get a weekend reservation up there unless I go out months. If I do --- walking around the loops the number of Illinois plates is not inconsequential.

Considering we are not a tourist state, I'd really like to see additionalout of state fees charged. Another $5-10 a site, applied as a discount to residents. Afterall my taxes already paid for the parks and I am incapable of using them because of the flood of people from Illinois and to a lesser degree Michigan.

My opinion was even stronger about 48 months ago. Then, I argued closing the park completely to out of state license plates.

I'm working on 'home office' organization --- a project I wanted to begin in March. My last day at my old job is Wednesday...I'm waiting to hear from them with details of what I need to sign, and return to them. Bittersweet -- 24 years gone in a flash of cost-cutting fervor. Thats fine. Get my office put together, turn it into the study I want with a wingback chair, and a pipe-rack with a small ozone generator to neutralize the smoke smell if it is more offensive than a clowder of cats.

I'm reminded of a cartoon, in the panel a manager type is sitting at his desk, with a overflowing inbox. Standing in the doorway is the grim reaper. The only dialog is from the manager saying, "I'm so glad you're here, I can't get anything done without a deadline"
