NICE! Looks like a town I could like!! This is in Bayfield?

Had to look it up to find it --- that's pretty far up there, eh? Love that house in the background!

Great pic! Thanks for sharing it.
You never tire of seeing those majestic birds. We have a dead tree between our home and the shoreline that we have left standing for years, simply because it has become a favorite fishing roost for the area eagles, and occasional osprey, which has fortunately given us a close up (20-30 ft) view of their activity many times over those years. Hopefully it will continue to stand for many more.

  4. We were almost camping yesterday. We were in a campground and there was a 560 at the site. Unfornately, due to some dumb planning on our part we were just visiting another Camp Inn owner and not camping ourselves. They were camping about an hour away from the house, so we rode up and ate lunch at their site. Love camping this time of year and the weather was perfect this weekend here in SC. Pretty hard to get back in the car to go home. Hopefully, the first weekend of November provides us with good weather when we do get to go ourselves.

I hung some party lights up today. They really liven the place up.

My CI is in the garage to the right. I can open the garage door and have access to it.

This summer has been a mixed bag for me --- our summer vacation was nice but rained me out. Our trip to Wisconsin for CICO was great, but we got rained out, but our best trip by far has been one of our routine weekend trips.

Maybe this trip was just the crisp autumn air, combined with an azure blue sky with nary a cloud and a few camping surprises....but, boy, did I need it.

We went to Charlestown State park --- made youtube famous by "proper people" who, a few years ago, did an urban exploration of a WWII munitions plant that was then being torn down. Sadly, its not a visitable site yet, combined with a turn-of-the-last century amusement park called "Rose Island" which is now one of their hiking trails.

There is 1 main loop, and then 2 smaller loops that branch off of it. The main loop is pretty awful. Big sites, but they are all wide open and on a busy 2 lane, 2 direction 'street' --- I wouldn't stay there on a bet. However, the 2 loops off of the main loop are much quieter and very nice.

There's 1 site --- and I'll tell you the number only if you mail me a request - written on the back of $100 bills - the bigger the print and more detailed the request, the faster I'll respond.

The site nestles up to a ring of trees with about a 15-foot gap where you can step inside --- from inside you have trees and underbrush on all sides -- making it impossible to see anyone, or for them to see you. Amazing. It could use a refresh of the stone used to suppress mud...I'm sure on a wet weekend it wouldn't have been as nice. I knew about the site before we left, but I had never actually camped there.

As an added bonus, I added a "Solo Stove" ranger to my collection --- I have a "bonfire" that I used to take in the big camper, but it just takes up too much space to tote around. The Ranger is much smaller, totally redesigned from the early bonfire (easy to clean), lights easily, burns without much smoke, and burns completely --- with the temps around freezing we went through quite a bit...I think I've given it a good workout. 2 or 3 people around it were comfortable....a fourth or more and you'll probably want a larger fire...

I highly recommend one of these if you aren't into smoky fires and are perhaps not the best pyro out there :)

The best thing to see while at this park is another park --- the Falls of the Ohio which is about 30 minutes away....Amazing site.

If you're in Southern Indiana or northern Kentucky -- it's well worth the trip.

thanks. I think the ranger throws more heat than the bonfire too…probably because logs exposed more through the top. I really am very happy with it….

See how next weekend goes….going to try some larger pieces, the site we were at last weekend only had the awful state contracted mill offal. Dry, uniform, but small pieces….I’m anxious to see how larger “off park” purchased bundles work…

Suddenly, my situation isn't so bad! LOL

This is a little early isn't it? I am OK with snow from about 2'nd week in November through January 3'rd. After that, I'm lookin' for spring time....

Temps here are starting to dip. We've seen frost but still pretty far from snow

Just mother natures shot across the bow, to remind you that you better get your pre-winter tasks done pretty soon!
I remember getting 30+ inches of snow on Halloween of '91, and not seeing bare ground again until almost May.

Speaking of Halloween I came from a metropolitan area and moved to the country. The neighbors told me not to expect any trick or treaters. I found that unacceptable and bought a bunch of candy. Here my 97 year old neighbor helps me bag some candy. We made 24 one quart freezer bags and she will be calling all the neighbors rounding up 24 kids.

Nope! We've had snow in September. The first CICO (1st weekend in October), there was snow & sleet Friday evening. So we didn't get out the the campground until Saturday morning. Never got above 42° F. that weekend.

Also have had snow into May, with high temps in the low 30°s.

Forecast for us tomorrow is slight chance of snow showers, then rain. High of 45°.

WOW! 97 years old is quite impressive. See what good Wisconsin living will do for you. We are heading up to Ely MN on 15OCT22 and saw there maybe snow flurries. Nothing like a good ol' mid western fall. Have fun and if you get a 62yr old trick or treater....remember.... he likes Garrison Balmorhea;)

I don’t check ID for age. My only requirement is you have to be in costume.

You would have been VERY popular in my neighborhood growing up :) I remember one Halloween that a specific house was giving away FULL SIZE candy bars. The one time my Dad made my costume that was so unique there was no way to get seconds :)

Good memories coming up here...this was in the late 70's....

robots with flashing lights (all battery powered with D cell batteries of course!) , headless torso's with a bunch of fake blood....

My dad LIVED for that stuff...when I was a kid. I need to figure out how to bring that to him this year....he's 84....not many of them left.

Thank you for the reminder of what is really important.

Four bags weigh 4 pounds and 11.5 ounces so each kid will get more than a pound of candy.
