OK...this is just weird. You are the second person who has asked bout dryer lint being grey in the past week.

So here's what I found: Trace elements in laundry dryer lint: A proxy for household contamination and discharges to waste water - ScienceDirect -- To think taxpayer money was used to pay to answer that question :D

I enjoy starting a fire, it is one of the things I enjoy about camping the most, and I've gotten pretty good at it over the years. There's an oooh factor in knowing that a tiny spark was responsible for starting an event which is hopefully contained in a small ring of steel or stone that sits right there. I dont' have a problem with that at all. It's the fuel that I'm not thrilled with. My back porch/patio/deck every spring is covered with chunks of bark, sawdust and leaves, and for the 4-5 months the wood stove is necessary are equally messy.

It works. I was skeptical when I heard about it, but decided to give it a try. The trick is as always...airflow. But this is a lot more stable than the traditional way, it also does not result in an unstable base which will collapse when the kindling is gone.

@dustinp - you nailed it with the rolling logs comment. I have never had good luck with fatwood. I've always found that it was too hard to get started. I might be doing it wrong, but it always feels like I needed something to get the fatwood started...the lint and wax just wants to burn.

So dryer lint is from clothes. I never would have guessed that.

I assume it was socks being slowly returned from the netherworld from whence they disappeared too.

I usually stand the pieces upright as a group against the inside front edge of the grate/log holder, with the a pieces of split firewood on either side right up against the fatwood, then light the bottom of the most forward piece. I also have noticed that some pieces do light easier than others though, maybe an extra few seconds of the lighter flame. Maybe if you stuck the bottom of the fatwood into a ball of dryer lint you'd have better luck :)

Its all about heat --- giving the fatfood flame something to bounce its heat off of. I'm not a big fan of it --- but, I do use it as a 'sustainer' because it does burn longer than the waxed paper...

Learning that 1 log might burn with a coal bet, but 2 next to each other will burn better.

I would need a study done to accept that as fact. :D

Morning coffee is the same coffee I drink every day. The difference is the crispness in the air -- second day in a row with temperatures in the 50s. I like it --- but boy, am I dreading winter. Of course, by next Monday, the highs will be in the 90's. It seems mother nature is off her meds again :D

No camping plans this weekend, as we are just ahead of CICO, it's hard to 'justify' taking a weekend when there are chores to do, and we'll be in Wisconsin next weekend and a few days either side of it. Maybe we'll go up to Fort Wayne, Indiana -- the Jonny Appleseed festival is this weekend (Home - Johnny Appleseed Festival) -- if you are nearby, it's worth of a trip. Although many events we went to before 2020 have suffered greatly. After Appleseed festival, the next autumn event is the Feast of hunters moon in Lafayette Indiana. Its worth going to it, just for the FFA Porkchop booth :)

Somwehere in here, I need to paint the trim on the house - or at least touch up a few spots.

I awoke to a calm sunny day although as the day gets older it tends to find some wind.

Still finishing my first cup of coffee and then need to jump in the shower so I can help a neighbor with some tables for the Christmas Tree Festival. Somehow I got roped into being the trash man during it. It’s the same weekend as CICO so it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to make.

That's too bad --- I was looking forward to putting a face with the name. But there is a lot to be said for doing community service. Something frankly I should probably do more of.

Last night the low was 37F. At least my morning coffee was 105F. I’ll be going to the Ogema Christmas Tree Festival this Saturday and it might snow.

    Film at eleven.

It’s definitely been cooler at night. I haven’t turned my heat on yet and it was 58F inside this morning. I woke up with my cat buried under the covers next to me soaking up my heat.
I bought a snow blower yesterday and will pick it up this morning.

Such is life in the Great Northwoods of Wisconsin.

  13. Gonna be 51 in the morning in SC. Nice after some mid 90s this week. Hopefully, that’s done for the year as the next ten days look like nice temps. Might get to camping in 2 weeks, definitely going out again the first week of November.

I can take the mid 90's Florida heat and humidity thisweek but keep the hurricanes out. A bit worrisome for central Gulf Coast of Florida.

52 here at CICO. Great bon fire last night, and lots of good conversations around the pizza oven.

Wind from the north which means temperatures are dropping. Tomorrow we are expected to get out first frost. Black Rifle coffee in my cup.

How was the Christmas show? We made it to the Cranfest on Friday, if that was any indication, it was good. People have to come from all over…there aren’t that many people up here :)

It’s 50 degrees here in Necedah…thinking maybe a trip somewhere. If not bacon, eggs, and some “fredericks” (Meijer store brand) cherry flavor is probably next up :).

still enjoying the blue skies at the CICO location…maybe go home tomorrow

The show was a huge success and fun although I ended up working for most of it. It was overcast and chilly yet 4,000 people showed up in a town of 100.
