I couldn't agree more about the thunderstorms in a teardrop. My fondest such experience was at 6145 ft elevation at Sylvan Lake campground in South Dakota --- with the storm quite literally surrounding us....it was great!

I probably should have gone to the shower house - but we're all adults and make our choices

 

Camped in a tropical storm passing through SC once. Fun times.

 

First big storm in new to me CI was parked on edge of bayou nect to Mobile Bay watching the first big storms of hurricane season march thru with quite the show...except for a bit of rocking in the wind, snug as a bug in a rug..

 

I can't say I'm a fan of trailers rocking in the wind -- but I have to admit I like the sound of rain falling on the roof. Wind shredded tents, and muddy everything...not a fan. A number of parks have forever been removed from my consideration of a place to stay becuase of bad drainage.

 

...there is that But those stories are for a campfire...not a public forum

 

You will want to pass on the Julian Price Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway then. Except for the sites near the lake which are ok, the rest of it floods horribly. And at 4000+ elevation, they get a lot of rain in the summer.
