I actually was! I am a big mouth who loves camping and this forum! Its also a fantastic tool for potential buyers, I sincerely doubt I would have bought 518 if this didn't exist back then...

I'm also a technologist by profession, and have always worried about providers and the imprecision of backups. I use hostgator for my personal site(s) and manually back them up at last monthly. A blog that I just started (RVrefugee.com) which is public, but I don't promote it.

I started it before March 2020 --- we hoped to use our Class A and travel a lot more, working remotely and being semi-nomads. But our plans suddenly changed. I alos have couple commercial (RV exam/preinspection service, Paintless dent Repair, and RV headlight restoration) which at some point will be moved to dedicated hosting once commercial viability is determined. I'm wearing golden handcuffs with my day job.

All this siad, I hope the caretakers of this form have backups. Maybe we're running on a restored version now. It looks like ipage was who hosted based on the error but the IP now seems to be owned by Eigbbox.net. If you did restore, I'd LOVE to hear your experience story -- as some day, it likely will happen to me too :D

I've done full disaster recovery of enterprise applications, successfully restoring an instance of SAP and supporting applications, which ran the entire North American business...a multi billion dollar business. I would guess probably 90% of the people on this forum would know the name, and a likey good percentage of that purchased products from. This was hard. But, its easier than changing hosting providers. :)

Oh come on Sweeney admit it.....with your technical capabilities, since you had plans for Easter weekend, you took down the forum site so you wouldn't miss anything, and no one else would have an opportunity to become the number one poster in your absence.

Nothing as earth shattering as you feared happened. Simple glitch...kind of like the flip of a switch. :)

And for that I am joyful!!! I didn't realize how much time I spend with this little adopted family we have until it was gone.

I work in the IT field professionally and have personally experienced the "Oh crap!" second one more than one occasion. That is the second between the time you press enter and realize what a horrible mistake it was. Its one second -- but it feels like an eternity.

    For example,

    rm -rf / opt/apache/docroot/majorcompany/*
    rm -rf /opt/apache/docroot/majorcompany/*

See the difference? See that little space after / in the first example? That 1 character took me 36 straight hours. After a 12 day stretch of no days off. This of course happened at about 5pm Friday night.

I was "just" deleting a single low risk web site. What I DID was deleted EVERYTHING on the server, including the ability to log in.

My blood runs cold to think about it today...these mistakes are ones you never make twice. If you do, you've developed a talent and need to reconsider your lifes decisions.
